Kommunismi kohtaa kapitalismin. Uuden vallan aikaan vanhan vallan monumentit tuhotaan. Niin kävi kommunistien tullessa valtaan ja niin kävi myös heidän jälkeensä. Kommunistit tuhosivat kuninkaalliseen perheeseen viittaavia monumentteja ja demokratian kannattajat tuhosivat Lenin ja muiden sosialististen johtajien patsaita ja symboleja. Onneksi osa patsaista on pelastettu Sosialistisen taiteen museoon, jonka piha vaikuttaa patsaiden hautausmaalta. Takana näkyvä toimistorakennus antaa mielenkiintoisen taustan ja kontrastin kommunistijohtajien patsaille.

Alkuvaikeuksien jälkeen löysin aivan ihanan hostellin, 5 Vintagen. Paikka on viehättävä, jokaisella on oma huone - tosin puolet ajasta olen ollut täällä yksin. Omistaja Margaret hemmottelee minut piloille. Joka päivä hän tuo minulle lahjoja: hedelmiä, suklaata, macaroneja, omatekemää perinteistä bulgaarialaista juustopiirakkaa. Lisäksi hän toi minulle ayrania, juotavaa jogurttia, johon on sekoitettu vettä ja suolaa, ja joka on kuulemma ainoa oikea juoma juustopiirakan kanssa. Niin tai näin, juomatta jäi....

Communism faces capitalism. When the new leaderer comes to power, he usually destroys the symbols of the old leader. That´s what communists made when they came to power and that´s what was made to them afterwards. The communists destroyed all the symbols of royal family and the democracy supporters destroyed the communism symbols, such as the statues of Lenin and the other leadres. Some of the statues were rescued to the Museum of Socalist art. The museum yard looked like a graveyard of statues. The new office building in the behind gives an interesting background and contrast to the statue of Lenin.

After the first difficulties I found the best hostel ever, 5 Vintage. It´s charming and there is only private rooms here. Most of the time I have been here alone. The owner, Margaret, spoils me. She brings me gifts everyday: fruits, chocolate, macarons, home-made traditional cheese pie. She also brought me Ayran, a yoghurt drink, mixed with water and salt. Ayran is the only drink with cheese pie, reportedly. Well, even so, I couldn´t drink it....
